Eating a Goose on St Martins day

Here, in the northern Wine district of lower Austria, around the end of October almost every restaurant announces the upcoming “Gansl Essen” (goose eating) as an event you should not miss. Usually you order in time so that the chef has time to prepare the bird, to be crispy on your plate. Red cabbage and dumplings are traditional side dishes.

The bar-restaurant in the middle of the Falkenstein Wine cellars was a real pleasant discovery for me. By insiders this pub-restaurant is well-known for his excellent food and good wine selection. The modern interior in wood and stone decorated with nice details in earth tones in combination with the friendly service were very inviting. This elegant restaurant wouldn´t be out of place in a town like Vienna.

Restaurant - Vinothek “Weinstube” in Ladendorf

Weinstube in Ladendorf

We visited Restaurant „Weinstube“ in Ladendorf on a cold Friday afternoon in December. The bright, recently in pine wood furnished dining room had a big decorated Christmas tree in the middle and Chris Rea´s “Driving home for Christmas” playing on the background. The setting was very inviting and brought us in the right mood to order the 4 course “Advent Menu”.
